It’s time for my first ever Classics Club Spin!
spinning book
What is the spin?
Well, modified only slightly from the Classics Club blog...
"It’s easy. At your blog, before next Monday 23rd September 2019, create a post that lists twenty books of your choice that remain “to be read” on your Classics Club list.
This is your Spin List.
You have to read one of these twenty books by the end of the spin period.
Try to challenge yourself. For example, you could list five Classics Club books you have been putting off, five you can’t WAIT to read, five you are neutral about, and five free choice (favorite author, re-reads, ancients, non-fiction, books in translation — whatever you choose.)
On Monday 23rd September, they’ll post a number from 1 through 20. The challenge is to read whatever book falls under that number on your Spin List by 31st October, 2019.
We’ll check in here on the 31st October to see who made it the whole way and finished their spin book!"
So far I have read exactly 1 (one) book for my classics club challenge, so I'm going to go easy on myself and choose books I think I have a good chance of starting (one hard part) and then finishing (another hard part).  So my list will be made up of mostly re-reads and children's books. Or re-reads of children's books. At any rate, there are no tomes or doorstops on this list.
  1. The Birchbark House--children's book
  2. The Book of Laughter and Forgetting--re-read
  3. Charlotte's Web--re-read of a children's book
  4. Cathedral--re-read
  5. The Dispossessed--fave author
  6. The Egg and I--comic memoir
  7. Eight Cousins--re-read of a children's book
  8. Emily of New Moon--children's book
  9. The Handmaid's Tale--re-read
  10. The Hobbit--re-read of a children's book
  11. The House at Pooh Corner--re-read of a children's book
  12. Howards End--a mere 318 pages
  13. Howl's Moving Castle--children's book
  14. Invisible Man--okay fine, I'll include one challenging one.
  15. The Left Hand of Darkness--re-read
  16. The Liar's Club--memoir, 320 pages, possibly a re-read? You'd think I'd remember.
  17. The Martian Chronicles--re-read
  18. The Moonstone--re-read
  19. Our Town--re-read
  20. Picnic at Hanging Rock--189 pages!
