Sunday Post #36/Sunday Salon #9

Kimberly at Caffeinated Book Reviewer hosts the weekly Sunday Post link-up, and Deb at ReaderBuzz is expanding Sunday Salon from a FB group to a link-up as well.

What I Read: 5 books
After my daughter listened to the audiobook of I Wish You All the Best, I just HAD to read it so we could talk about it. Then I read the next three Scooby Apocalypse graphic novels, enjoying the parody of Tr*mp as well as the general hilariousness of taking those meddling kids so seriously. Then for a complete change of tone I read Barely Missing Everything. which was really good but unremittingly grim.

What I'm Reading/What's Next
I couldn't sleep last night, so I grabbed The Disasters from where I'd put it down near my bed a month or two ago. It's fun so far--madcap sci fi adventure. And if I manage to grab Birthday from the new books display before someone else does, I can complete my first bingo row of the summer!

Three Things

  • My daughter's been bugging me to make kotletes, which are basically Latvian pork meatballs, and last night I not only finally did, but also made a loaf of homemade bread. Which is gone already, because homemade bread is amazing.
  • Reminder that I'm doing a weekly "giveaway" all month. I put it in quotes, because I'm actually donating books (for the most part) in your name. I came up with the idea while driving home last Tuesday, and I was so excited planning it out that I missed my exit. TO MY HOUSE. ON THE ROUTE THAT I DRIVE DAILY FOR MY COMMUTE.
  • I keep daydreaming about running away for a week of alone time. Then Friday my family was out of the house all day and late into the night, and I did absolutely nothing. Like, I didn't even read much. I watched about ten episodes of New Girl, which is okay, but not worth devoting a day to. So maybe I wouldn't do well on my own after all. (On the other hand, I was super productive the next day, so maybe I just needed that level of vegging out to charge my batteries? But I'm on vacation, so why would I? Life is confusing. OH! I also put together my massive list of my favorite book that I've read that was published each year I've been alive, so yeah, I guess I did do something for a few hours.)

The kid leaves for a week at camp, so we'll practice being empty nesters this week. We've talked about walking to this margarita place that opened near us, although it will probably be more of a party joint that we like. Might also have some of our trivia friends over for a game night. And the least likely plan we've discussed is doing a thorough cleaning of our bedroom and closets. I think it'll be a nice week whatever we end up doing, and I hope yours is as well!

  1. Having kids is funny, isn't it? When they are there, you wish they'd be gone, and when they are gone, you wish they'd be there. I like all your possible plans for your week as empty nesters (well, except the thorough cleaning of bedroom and closets). Golly, I haven't played a real board game in oh-so-long....I must propose a night of that to our friends soon.

You read some good books this week. I think I'll stay away from unremittingly grim for now, though.

I'm off to read your massive list of fifty favorites.

    Enjoy the quiet this week.

  2. Homemade bread is amazing! Nothing beats that fresh baked smell.
My four kids are all home this week, and next, as it’s their mid year school holidays, so no margaritas for me!

    Have a great reading week

  3. I love homemade bread. Seriously, I could never give up bread haha.

I still need to read the latest Scooby Apocalypse (or two latest- not sure where I left off??)

  4. Wow! I don't think I have ever watched 10 episodes of a show in a row. But, way to make bread. That's quite an undertaking. I keep putting off I Wish You All the Best, because I heard it kind of sad. I need to be in the right headspace.

  5. Oh my gosh, I NEED to get my hands on Scooby Apocalypse, it would seem. I am intrigued! Also, gosh, I Wish You All the Best has not left my mind since I read it. I hope you both get some good conversations in having read it. I feel like it's definitely one of those must read and discuss titles of the year.

Hope you have a great upcoming week and if you do walk to that margarita place, I hope you enjoy it! If you go at a specific time, you guys can probably miss the partying crowd. (Assuming they have a set of hours that expand beyond nightlife time.)

  6. I really need to read I Wish You All the Best---I even pre-ordered it. And I just got a notification that I can check Birthday out from the library.

  7. OMG! I'm totally the same! My kid and husband went away for the day on Saturday and weren't home until Sunday afternoon. All I'd wanted was ME time and what did I do? Cleaned, food shopped and rewatched half of S8 of Charmed. I did none of the things I thought I'd do. Totally wasted it, lol. Glad to know I'm not the only one like that! :)
I also have a habit of reading books the kid has read so we can have all the bookish conversations... It's a thing.

    Have a great week!
