TTT: Books That Have Been on my TBR the Longest

Our friends at The Broke and the Bookish asked us to list  "Ten Books That Have Been On Your Shelf (Or TBR) From Before You Started Blogging That You STILL Haven't Read Yet."  Just for fun (and scientific purposes), I'm going to see which ten books have been lingering on my (massive) Goodreads TBR since 2008 when I first joined the site.

Any thoughts?  Recommendations?  Should I just accept that it ain't gonna happen and erase them from my shelves?  I have checked out at least three of these from the library at various times, but always wind up returning them unread.

  1. Maniac Magee is one of those books that I’m supposed to read, but I haven’t done it yet because it just doesn’t look appealing. That’s weird because I was obsessed with Stargirl when I was in middle school. My Language Arts teacher loaned it to me, and I read it a zillion times before I had to give it back.

Aj @ Read All The Things!

  2. Spinelli is hit or miss for me. I really did NOT like Stargirl, but I loved Milkweed.

  3. Three Cups of Tea is one of those books for me. In spite of the controversy, I still do want to read it.

The Blue Castle is a comfort read, it should not take that much effort so you could try it when you need an escape.

Otherwise, now you have got me interested in some titles I had not heard of - The Hemingses of Monticello and Promised Land may be going on my TBR. Maybe then you can take them off of yours?

    1. THAT is a FANTASTIC idea. We should be able to swap TBRs with people! Promised Land is written by the guy I took 19th Century Lit from in college--I've read some of his other work and enjoyed it, and the premise sounds fascinating.

  4. I love love this week's TTT! I should have done it, darn it.

From your list, I read Three Cups of Tea over 10 years ago! It was pretty good, from what I generally remember.

I think you should remove them from your Goodreads TBR. 8 years is a looong time, and I highly doubt you'll ever read them. haha, it's OK. Purge your TBR of the oldest books and feel the relief!

    1. At this point, my TBR list is kind of a history of me as a reader in itself. (In itshelf?)

  5. The only one I recognise is Maniac Magee...WHICH IS REALLY GOOD!! It was one of my childhood favourites actually eheheh.😂 Although I recently read another of Spinelli's books this year and hated it so #whoops. 😂

    1. It really wouldn't take me that long to read. And I have TWO copies of it in my classroom library. There is no excuse.
